The Nutrition and Wellness Research Center (NWRC) is available for research projects involving human subjects with locations in the ISU Research Park and the Human Nutrition Sciences Building on the ISU Campus. The NWRC includes research and laboratory space, equipment for controlled studies related to diet, exercise and behavior change. Equipment is available to collect data on metabolic risk factors, body composition and/or physical fitness. An exercise area with private locker room and shower facilities provides convenient space for controlled exercise studies. Exercise equipment includes several treadmills, three cycle ergometers and metabolic carts for assessing resting and exercise-related energy expenditure.
Body composition measurements may be assessed via BODPOD, PeaPod, and bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and bone mineral densitometry via dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Anthropometry assessment and phlebotomy rooms are available for collecting blood and other clinical data.
Fully-equipped metabolic kitchens area available at both the Research Park and campus locations with a professional stove/oven, microwave ovens, two dishwashers, refrigerator/freezer, walk-in pantry, walk-in cold room, walk in freezer and an ice machine. Adjacent dining rooms provide capacity to serve meals for up to 40 people simultaneously.
The NWRC research spaces and equipment may be reserved by ISU faculty and graduate students by contacting Jeanne Stewart, jws1@iastate.edu.
