Germplasm and Phytochemical Profiling

Core Objectives
This core supports the resources for extraction, fractionation, and structural determination of phytochemicals. Its objectives are as follows:

• To fractionate those that show useful activity
• To supply extracts of the plant materials produced and profiled by Core A to Projects 1-3

 

The structures of individual bioactive components will be examined, and chemical standards for chosen potentially bioactive constituents will be synthesized chemically for the phytochemical profiles by Core A and for the bioassays by Projects 1-3. Also, this Core will ascertain the bioavailability and probe metabolism of selected herbal components using a CaCo-2 cell model.

 

 

 

 

Office closed during semester break

The Botanical Center's administrative office will be closed December 24 - January 3, in accordance with Iowa State University's semester break recommendation. Normal office hours will resume on Monday, January 4, 2010.
