About the NWRC

Mission Statement

The mission of the Nutrition and Wellness Research Center is to enhance human wellness through research and education activities that explore dietary intake, physical activity, and health-related behaviors as they influence disease risk.  In partnership with food and health-related industries, the NWRC aims to create new, economically viable strategies using foods and food ingredients, exercise, and health-related behavioral change to build a healthier Iowa, nation, and world.

While the initial focus areas include obesity and type II diabetes, the NWRC will also support other research involving on-site food preparation and provision of food to participants, exercise testing, body composition assessment, participant evaluation using questionnaires, and data analyses.

The NWRC is interested in building partnerships with various organizations and individuals to boost this cutting-edge research facility.  These collaborations are key to creating a center of national significance for improving wellness through development and information about healthy foods and lifestyles.
