2007 Symposium
The Nutrition and Wellness Research Center at Iowa State University invites you to attend our second annual symposium, May 7-9, 2008, The Gateway Hotel and Conference Center, Ames, IA, on "Gut health: microbes, immunity, diet, exercise, and disease prevention".
Speakers from academia and industry on research frontiers will connect diet, exercise, immune and microbial function with gut health. Topics include prevention of diseases such as colon cancer, irritable bowel syndrome/colitis, infectious illnesses and maintenance of optimal gut function (laxation, regularity, prevention of disease), roles of gut microbes in metabolism of dietary phenolics and fiber, and effects of exercise and dietary habits on gut microbial populations and pathogenic microbes. Speakers will address gut environment and new food products to enhance wellness. The symposium will integrate disciplines to consider new research directions to enhance wellness.
Conference attendees will have opportunities to interact with speakers and other attendees at a reception May 7, and during discussions, meals and breaks on May 8 and continuing through an industry networking lunch and presentations on May 9. The evening of May 8, Dr. Gary Williamson, Professor of Food Science at the University of Leeds, will provide after-dinner remarks on the future for this field of research, including prospects for new products and new ways of thinking about the role of the gut in human wellness.
